Your Church & Community
In order to effectively combat the global warming crisis, we must take action collectively as well as individually. We must each become active in our churches, our communities, and we must take action as a nation.
Your Church
If every Christian in the United States committed their self and their family to fighting global warming, we would solve this problem in a few years. By making the commitment to fight global warming, we Christians will spread the message of Christ’s love around the Earth, through our thoughts and actions.
Share the information you have learned about global warming with members of your church. Members of your Church may not yet understand the human affects of climate change. Tell them that global warming means villages flooding, droughts effecting millions, crops failing, famine, the spread of disease, and the start of wars.
Talk to your pastor about global warming. Ask him to learn more about the issue and what your church can do to become more involved. Ask him to pray and preach on the issue. Spread the message that we can live out Christ’s love by committing ourselves to helping others and fighting global warming.
Your Community
You can also make a difference in your community. Call on your local Board of Education to teach children about the realities of global warming. Call on your municipality’s Department of Sanitation to offer a recycling program. Call on your local electric utilities to offer energy derived from renewable energy sources, such as wind, water, geothermal, and solar power.
Your Nation
Governmental officials of all political persuasions must realize that global warming is not a political issue, but a moral issue with economic and national security implications. Government officials and candidates for elected office listen to their constituents. When the people demand their government officials take action, they do. We must call on our leaders to lead us in this fight. If you like an elected official or candidate’s platform on other issues but not their position on global warming, contact that candidate and ask them to reconsider.
Call on your government officials to end our nation’s dependence on foreign oil, (often imported from the Middle East). Call on your government officials to support American industries as the world transitions to a green economy—a transition in which America has fallen dangerously behind. Call on your government to assist nations negatively affected by climate change. And, demand the United States become a world leader on climate change so the United States maintains its status as a world leader.
