A Green Economy

The fight against global warming presents an unequalled economic opportunity at exactly the time the United States most needs economic stimulation. The innovation, design, and manufacture of green technologies will drive the world economy for the next hundred years. The country most able to innovate, perfect, and manufacture these technologies will be the world’s economic leader.

The United States led the world into the Information Age. Microsoft, Apple, Google, Intel, IBM, Oracle, and Cisco Systems are among the global leaders in information technology—each is a United States based corporation. Eight of the thirteen largest grossing information technology companies are American companies. Unfortunately, the U.S. is currently losing the race to lead in the green economy.
As opposed to U.S. dominance in information technology, foreign corporations are leading in green technologies.  Toyota has cornered the hybrid car market with the Prius. Vestas Wind Systems, based in Denmark, is the world leader in the manufacture and installation of windmills.

Similarly, the United States Government has not taken enough action to promote green innovation. The European Union created the Environmental Technologies Action Plan “to improve European competitiveness in this area, and enable the EU to become the recognised world leader.” The U.S. government has made no such commitment.

With each passing year we do not commit ourselves to becoming a world economic leader in green industries, we fall another year behind Europe and Asia.
